It was built by one founder who got tired of watching ordinary people lose money to fake login pages and lookalike sites. Here is who we are, why we built it, and how it actually works.
What SafeBrowz is
SafeBrowz is an independent, privacy-first security product founded by Meraj Ali in 2026. It is a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and Edge, plus a SafeBrowz Android app, that checks the sites you open in real time and blocks phishing, scams and crypto wallet drainers before they load. It is free to use, with an optional Premium tier at $14.99 per year, and it does not store your per-user browsing history. The detection and every guide on this site come from our own research, published under SafeBrowz Threat Research.
Who we are
SafeBrowz is an independent product, not a venture-backed startup and not a broad antivirus suite. It was founded in 2026 by Meraj Ali, who builds and maintains it. We are deliberately narrow: we do one thing, stopping phishing, scams and wallet drainers, and we try to do it better than anyone else in that lane. The detection engine and the scam guides on this site are produced under SafeBrowz Threat Research, our own detection and research work.
Why we built it
Phishing and scam sites are not a rare problem. Fake bank logins, lookalike government portals, parcel and toll texts, and crypto wallet drainers take money from ordinary people every single day, and the people who get hit are rarely careless. They are just busy and human. The tools that already existed were either broad security suites that treated scams as an afterthought, or expensive products aimed at companies. SafeBrowz was built to put real, real-time scam protection in front of anyone, for free, without harvesting their browsing history to do it.
How it works
SafeBrowz checks a link before the page renders, across three layers:
- Local checks run inside the browser: 60+ URL pattern signatures and a 550+ brand impersonation database, plus homograph and Punycode checks, so a lookalike domain is flagged instantly with no network call needed.
- Threat-intelligence lookups aggregate public feeds so sites already reported as malicious are caught.
- AI content analysis (Premium) reads a brand-new page the way a person would, in over 100 languages, to catch scams no list has seen yet.

Privacy is the default
Privacy is not a feature we bolt on, it is the starting point. SafeBrowz does not store your per-user browsing history and does not store the contents of the pages you visit. Detection signatures come from threat-intelligence research and our own brand database, not from watching what you browse. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
Honest about where we are
SafeBrowz launched in 2026, so we are new, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. We are independent and small, which we think is a strength: there is a real person behind every decision, we fix mistakes quickly, and we answer our own email. If we ever get something wrong in a guide, tell us and we will correct it.
